If some of these are part of your life just like mine, you are in a league called The procrastinator.

Research suggest that 95% of the people in the world agree that they procrastinate at some point of time. Just rethink any problem in your life, the fundamental reason may be due to procrastination or It might have happened when someone else would have procrastinated. A very good example would be my favorite scene in the movie "The Curious case of Benjamin Button" where Benjamin Button(Brad Pitt) narrates how Daisy's (Cate Blanchett) dance career ends. At times it makes me wonder whether it is inevitable.

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMWtc9AVO8L9smngYPESaPp34IRNa1d6VSdVGP-J9IrENBSe8NL_N-1JkcQDLfrRZPGxT0veq3suP5L-iEWLrek9xe871HsAk9QaDb6CP7mlA-cpxi90Dpaa4Ca72Jup4ebYoYvpr5xRs/?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('3a3e4f40-6f96-4ac2-ad70-506c9a4d3c8c'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

My favorite scene in the movie "The Curious case of Benjamin Button"

Many psychologist say that the reason for procrastination is FEAR. I read an interesting article which said that in some or the other way the 3 main reason (though there could be even more) are 'The fear of failure', 'The fear of unpleasant or painful experiences' and 'The fear of missing out'.

Based on my own experience and observation( which are completely subjective) I have figured out few fundamental reason for procrastination. Interestingly for few reason, I have found a theory backing me.

Childhood effects your Adulthood:

Development psychology is a scientific study which believes that every incident that occurs in a human life right from childhood plays a major role in their entire life san.

Most of the parents set the time of their Clock or Wrist watch a little earlier thinking that they and their kids may be on time, if they do things a little early. But they forget that it gets subconsciously registered in their mind and ultimately end up being late. They get completely confused with the actual timing. Interestingly I have found out that their lateness is directly proportional to the time they set in their clock w.r.t the actual time. For example if the house clock is set 5 min early the entire family develops a habit of being late for say 5 -10 min. I guess procrastinator might have developed this habit right from childhood which I believe is one of the major reason.

Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell who you are:

I call Procrastination a communicable disease that most of us suffer. I believe its communicable based on a theory called the Convergence theory of crowd psychology which says that "The crowd behavior is not a product of the crowd itself, but is carried into the crowd by particular individuals and this amount to a convergence of like- minded individuals". So any one of your friend is a procrastinator, there is a high probability that you and your friends might get influenced by him.

Art of blaming:

“ And God said, ’Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?’ Then the man said, ’The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.’ And the Lord God said to the woman, ’What is this that you have done?’ The woman said, ’The serpent deceived me, and I ate." Genesis 3:11-13. “

Art of blaming is a tool used by every human. Just like in the movie 'The shutter Island' Edward Daniels A.K.A Andrew Laeddis (Leonardo Di Caprio) develops a defensive mechanism to convince himself that he had not murdered his wife, We develop 'Art of blaming ' as a defensive mechanism and never try to figure out the actual reason and solve it. We blame others when we procrastinate and never try to solve it ourselves.

These are few fundamental reason that I believe lead to procrastination. Me on the virtue of overcoming procrastination can definitely not give any suggestion to overcome this. But I hope this post may help you solve the fundamental reasons for procrastination. Like I always believe, life is filled with valuable lesson which should be learnt not read.
Arumugham S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13079431713377605533noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789019970318440186.post-13860225019241486682010-12-06T20:11:00.004+05:302010-12-19T15:42:32.550+05:30Life is filled with lessons
I hope most of you might have experienced this in your final year of college. All that you hear is placement, training etc. If you happened to get any tips from your seniors or staffs, all they say is "you need to have a right attitude which is very difficult to build", "you should go for some personality development classes". Well if you ask me, I would say it can be easily built and no need for going to any of these classes. Lesson can be learnt from every incident and thing you do in your life. I completely believe that they happen just to teach you some valuable lesson. One such example is Age of Empires(AOE). It’s a strategy game in which most of us fail to understand its valuable lessons. This game has personally changed me and my friends in terms of attitude and approach in life. It may sound insane, but its very true. Ask any AOE player, I bet he would say the same, if not ask him to read this post because he has failed to implement them.

AOE is a strategy game developed by Ensemble Studio(Also created HALO), which was a part of Microsoft game Studio. It’s a multiplayer game where the player can choose different civilization which existed in the past, like the Chinese, Korean, Turks, Aztecs etc. You will be like an Emperor taking care of the kingdom during the civilization you choose. Just like any Emperor you need to manage your economy, defense, population and a lot more. Throughout the game gold, stone, wood, food and population are the 4 parameters which are to be considered and rest is your strategy. The game play and Artificial Intelligence is just brilliant. Microsoft has done a lot of research to understand each civilization and have done a lot of detailing based on them. For example we all know that Chinese were good archers and Persians used Elephants at war, Even the game play is just the same when you choose those civilization. For each unit(cavalry, Infantry or archers) there is a counter unit for example elephants are weak when archers are used. Each civilization has its own pros and cons. The winning or losing completely depends on the strategy and the civilization you choose.
So this is about the game description, just to give a feeler about the entire game. AOE will be awesome only if you play with Human opponents. You can play with computer for practice and later If you understand the algorithm its just a cake walk to win with computer opponent.

Importance of time
AOE is a game where speed and time is very crucial. Mastering this may lead you to win the game. During the game based on your resources(4 parameter) and economy you can upgrade your civilization starting from Dark age, Feudal age, Castle age and then Imperial age. Based on these time period different features and up gradation gets unlocked and you can use them. The faster, the better when opposed to your opponent. This is just one example for importance of time, throughout the game you will experience the crunch.

Team work
A maximum of 8 player can play this game. So it obviously means that we can create a team and work as ally. Ally means a lot when you play AOE. For example If you have an ally; you can trade with him, which in return helps you generate more gold. It’s a boon when the gold mines gets over in your area. In fact only through trade you can generate maximum gold. Ally also helps us in crisis, economy, developing strategy and Defense.

How To Improve Working Memory
Not only speed and agility, even multitasking is equally important. Multitasking is the best way to improve working memory. In this game in order to collect food and wood, you need to assign farmers and woodcutters. After sometime you need to keep refreshing the field so that the farmer keeps on working. When the woodcutter cuts all the tress the gap between the lumberjack and the trees increases this also means that the time to cut increases, so you need to build lumberjack every time near the trees. Similarly when the gold and stone mines get over, you need to assign them to do some other job. All this you need to do even when you are at war because if you don’t, then the economy goes down. So multitasking is very crucial.

Tips To Be Organized
In order to upgrade to civilization you need to satisfy certain prerequisite. For example from dark age to feudal age you need to build two feudal age building and need 500 food. The entire game is completely organized and subconsciously you learn how to be organized.

These are just few example that I can think as of now. There are many more valuable lesson that are hidden. All you need to do is just understand them and realize it. As I said earlier every incident and things you do in life, good or bad is a valuable lesson.
Arumugham S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13079431713377605533noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789019970318440186.post-63707995721940967672010-04-14T12:23:00.000+05:302010-09-10T12:27:44.260+05:30DSY @ MAHENDRA ENGINEERING COLLEGE
This was out 13th DreamSpark Event at Mahendra Engineering college, Tiruchengode on 16th April 2010.

This event was organized by the CBEUG MSP, Kennedy Singh and Sathya Narayanan. Unfortunately i was not able to join the event.

This was the biggest DreamSpark Event in India and was conducted at Velalar Engineering College, in Erode, on 7th March 2010. This is the 5th city of our DreamSpark Campaign. For the second time we created history. The first event of CBEUG where we addressed an audience strength of 2500. It was an amazing challenge.

This event was organized by the CBEUG MSPs, Venkat, Gopinathan, Shiva, Aravindhan, Balaji. The way they organized the entire event was awesome. They had a very short span of time and they were capable of bringing 1200 students from other colleges. They went to individual colleges and invited the students. They also took a small session in the colleges creating interest among the students. They did it without any assistance from any other MSP.They pulled off the DreamSpark Yatra amazingly well. The hospitality provided was good. We had more than 2500 students in a single hall which had an overhead balcony also. The crowd was a mixture of students coming from various departments like MCA, Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical and IT.

The key speaker of this event was

Mr. Suhas Deshmukh, Microsoft IDC

The Session began with Mr.Suhas explaining about the testing methodologies in Microsoft. The students were very eagerly listening to him. The interaction was good at the venue. The students enjoyed the explanation of Mr. Suhas. The students came up with a lot of questions to Mr. Suhas

After that session Animesh Jain took on XNA Framework. He created a simple game using XNA in 10 Minutes. The crowd was amazed by this session. He also showed some sample games.

Abhishek Suresh began his session on UX but unfortunately the Projecter failed to work due to over heating. Abhishek Suresh then handled the session efficiently without the help of the projector. It was a challenge to handle such a big crowd without the projector. The crowd was also getting pretty agitated due to the high temperature climate present there. The auditorium was also not properly ventilated.

After Abhishek’s Session, Jibin took on Windows 7 and Project Natal. The crowd was in awe with the Natal Video and the various features of Windows 7. The projector also resumed working.

Sathya and Kennedy handled the next session. Imagine Cup Activity. We shot questions to the audience and gave away goodies to the correct answering attendees. It was highly interactive and interesting as the students wanted to stay back without lunch till 3:30. But we wound up as soon as possible so that the college officials would be able to handle the crowd.

And this time we tried something Different. We asked the audience for their favourite actor and Rajinikanth was voted in. Then I asked the question: “Which Operating System does Rajinikanth use and why?”

The winner won a ticket to the PDC @ Coimbatore J and a USB Speaker.

Though this event was a huge success, we learnt that handling huge student crowd is not an easy job. So we decided not to have any more big events like this in future.
Arumugham S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13079431713377605533noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789019970318440186.post-35983894486950390332010-03-04T23:19:00.000+05:302010-09-09T23:21:18.560+05:30DSY@ Muthayamal engineering college

This time it was at Muthayammal Engineering College, Rasipuram on 3rd March 2010. DY PIT STOP is nothing but a stall, were all the MSPs other than the one taking sessions, show demos of Windows 7, Boku, Small Basics, Photosynth, Multipoint SDK, Office 2010, Silverlight etc. This was done to ensure the crowd that couldn’t attend the event can have a look at the demos at DY PIT STOP. A demo of a simple programming in robot was shown. The afternoon was a mixture of some non techii and fun stuff. We had the Imagine cup activity conducted by Kenedy. He explained about the various events of Imagine cup 2010 and also conducted a test for the students. The one who scored highest was awarded with a webcam. Then we had session on Windows 7 by Sathya Narayanan, he explained some cool and interactive features of Windows 7.

Then we had Tech Gyaan Masala, which is a session on how to solve problems faced by students. Eduspark yatra which was announced in the Open days was the one right opportunity. So we planned to organize a CBEUG Bootcamp to motivate and share our idea to all the new recruited MSPs. We planned for a two days event at Hotel Vijay Paradise. It was organized on 6th and 7th of February 2010.

We organized the Boot Camp with the help of SathyaNarayanan and Jibin the newly recruited MSP, so that they get an experience into organizing events. Again it was a thrilling last-minute successful planning and lightning fast implementation.

@Day 1:

It begin with an introduction to the Usergroup where we explained what are the roles of an MSP and the responsibilities of the Executive Body. Notepads, Pens, Charts and CBEUG Stickers were distributed to all during this time. It was a pleasant surprise for the MSPs.

After the CBEUG Organization session was over, we conducted the SONA - State of National Affairs
This was an activity where the MSPs are jumbled and made to sit in groups. Then a couple of tasks would be given to each team which required interaction amongst each other and amazing Team Work. This was the perfect Ice Breaking Session.

After SONA we broke for lunch and we came back to Sathya Narayan's Session to help the Phase II selected MSPs, introducing them to the various sessions and tips on how to go about handling the various tasks being an MSP. It really helped the new recruits. Jibin also helped the MSPs on how to plan for a DevCon, what are the shortcomings they would come across etc.

@Day 2:

Next we had a Driver's Test. This test is a personality analysis Test. Test sheets were handed out to all the MSPs and all of them were made to complete the test. Then the analysis was based upon the responses of the MSPs. I was truly shocked to see that the Test made a 90% Perfect Analysis of the Individual. This was a real eye opener.
After the Driver's Test, myself and Abhishek left the venue to the OCP get a little gift for the attendees. Meanwhile Jibin Varghese was taking care of the attendees by checking them into the rooms and making sure that everything was fine. I had planned a small party where we had another Ice Breaking session, but due to the immense participation of the MSPs during the whole day, most of them slept off.
The Next Day began with a Bang. EduSpark Analysis and planning was made full on. I was inspired by the team effort put by all the MSPs in planning the EduSpark. We finalized the entire list of colleges to visit, the total number of Developer Conferences and the number of Goodies to provide to the audience. I really wish you were there to witness the team work.

After we finalized the plans and had a nice lunch. We had the awards ceremony, where we distributed the little surprise to everyone. They were a set of Visiting Cards for all the attendees of the session. We also distributed resource DVDs. It was a pleasant surprise for them. Vice Presidents of the Usergroup was also announced. Then we "promised" an award for the Best Performing MSP and the MSP to initiate Maximum number of MSDN AA and Live@edu.

This was the long 2 Day amazingly "AWESOME" Boot Camp that we had ever Conducted. It was a nice experience. The MSPs are eager to come for the next boot camp which we planned in the month of April / May.

Arumugham S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13079431713377605533noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789019970318440186.post-89644843112735765862010-01-25T04:24:00.001+05:302010-02-01T04:32:27.858+05:30Cookery and .net FrameworkBefore I start, lets learn a bit on cookery. First of all for cooking you need a gas cylinder & stove. Lol :)

For preparing dosa, chapatti, omelet etc all you need is a pan(thava). At times we even toast bread with the help of pan instead of a toaster. U need rice flour, wheat flour, egg respectively for preparing the items. Then you use your hands and various other kitchenware to prepare them.
So let us start and learn preparing dosa.
Obviously you have to connect gas cylinder to your stove and above that you keep the pan. Then using your hand and with the help of kitchenware you spread the rice flour evenly on the pan. Then when the lower part is fried, you turn it and do the other side. Thus the dosa is ready. You follow the same methodology(only the initial part differs) for preparing the other items as well.

That’s with the cookery classes, now let us learn what .net Framework is.
.net Framework is an integral Windows component that supports building and running the next generation of applications and Web services. In simple terms .net framework is a layer installed above your operating system to create different windows and web application. One important feature of .net framework is its language independence. i.e. you can develop your applications by choosing any language that you are good in. There are more than 155 languages supported by it. Like C#, Java, vb, etc. Now even python is included.

For developing the applications you need an integrated development Environment that provides you a set of tools. So that is were the Visual Studio comes into picture. Visual studio is an IDE that helps you to develop web & windows application on the .net framework.

I m pretty sure that you haven't understood even a single thing about .net framework. So let us co relate this with the cookery class that we took at the beginning.
The gas cylinder is the hardware and the stove is the operating system. The pan is the .net framework kept above the stove(OS). The wheat flour, rice flour, egg etc are the various languages that are supported by the pan( .net framework). Dosa, chappati etc are the required application that you want to build. You do that with your hand and with the help of various kitchenware which is nothing but the Visual Studio IDE and its tools.

Well I have tried to explain this in best possible lay man terms, I hope it was useful.Arumugham S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13079431713377605533noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789019970318440186.post-59204517975011981352010-01-01T22:11:00.004+05:302010-02-01T05:54:36.449+05:30Happy New Year

Ever since we started CBEUG in 2007, it was always few MSPs. As it was in the growing stage we happened to conduct few big events and most of the events in our college itself.
After the Bootcamp v1.0, we realized that there are a lot of MSPs joining the team and if it happens to continue in the same way, it wouldn’t be perfect.
We realized that only if there is a structure built, it could help the user group grow and sustain. We also realized that our dream of winning the best User Group will always remain a dream.
So myself and Abhishek finally decided to revamp the entire User Group. We also realized that revamping helps creating a brand. With a month long of brainstorming and research we finally designed a structure that may be suitable for our UG.
We decided that like any Organization, there will be Presidents in the top of the hierarchy. We decided to have four Vice-Presidents for effective delegation. The Vice-presidents were categorized based on the job role. Like Finance, Communication, Marketing, Club management etc.
As it was a blooming organization we decided this would be the right hierarchy. We built the Hierarchy keeping in mind that this is a student Organization and the governing body will be changing.

We also had a change in the logo, which would represent the Spirit of the Usergroup. Interestingly if you see the old and the new logo, the transformation of the usergroup can be deciphered.

Initially when we started the UserGroup we just had one point in mind that its a student Organization and more related to Technology. The same thing you can find in the logo. The font seems to be a little informal which indicates its a student Organization and the ‘G’ is a student using a lap top, which indicates that it is more related to technology. At the beginning of the User Group we just had a forum and events more into technology.
Generally the color Orange represents energy, strength and power and usually it means energetic motivator..

The New logo has even more meaning. Our Usergroup starting growing more socialistic along with technology evangelism. The ‘U’ is a smiley. Again the ‘G’ is a student using a laptop which means related to technology. The small ‘i’ indicates innovation. CBEUG generally means COIMBATORE USER GROUP, but it also means Change, Belongingness, Experience Unveil and Grow. This also is the lifecycle of any passionate student. At the beginning he tends to bring change the way he generally is or breaking stereotype. Then he induces belongingness with the group or the place where he is. Later he provides experiences to his peers. Then tries to unveil innovation and tries to do new thing and then grows. This is what we tried to imply.Even the color has meaning. Red indicates enthusiasm, strength and competitiveness. Blue indicates creative, balanced and harmonious. Green represents persistent, decisive and resistant state of mind. We also choose this color to represent the socialistic approach(Go green kind of thing). Again the small ‘i’ orange color is energetic motivator.
Our tag is “The Positive change Agents”.Which itself is self explanatory.

Our Values:

—Bringing Change
—Inducing Belongingness
—Providing Experience
—Unveiling Innovations
—Growing Together

Vision:

—To realize the true student potential of the city.

Mission:

—To create Revolutions Each Step, implementing team work and mentorship.

Our Impact:

—To enable young people to discover and develop their potential, acknowledge their innovation and provide leadership for a positive change on society.
I hope you guys liked our CBEUG’s new Avatar.Arumugham S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13079431713377605533noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789019970318440186.post-73329596969383959982009-11-05T02:27:00.001+05:302010-09-10T12:48:03.123+05:30CBEUG BOOTCAMP V1.0This was the first ever bootcamp organized by CBEUG. As there were a lot of newly recruited MSP, Abhishek and myself realized the necessity for guiding them and create an opportunity for them to communicate. The venue of the BootCamp was Zoom Consultancy. Our sincere thanks to Mr. Anil Nair for providing us the venue and also special thanks to Fazulul Rahman and Vivek Balaji who helped us.
We had MSP across different districts. We were even happy that the students we recommended became MSPs.There were a couple of more MSPs who happen to miss the session due to various reasons.

Abhishek and Myself began the introductory session and we started off explaining our past experiences and how we were recruited into the program and so on. The Ice Breaking session was effective, we made the new recruits make 10 statements about themselves out of which 5 statements should be stated false, and the rest of them should guess which were the false statements made by the speaker. We explained the roles and benefits of an MSP, the Do's and Don'ts etc.

Then after our lunch the CBEUG structure was explained to them. Then the method of uploading and the opportunities available for the new recruits to gain points very easily was clearly described. I was very glad that the MSPs were already in the process of planning to reach their targets. One of the MSPs (Sathya) already has secured 160 points which was truly amazing!

After the sessions and lots of coffee, we celebrated the launch of Windows 7! It was a small party where we ate some Junk food and used the Windows 7 Tissue Papers :). Overall it was a memorable event, a niche in the history of CBEUG. Hoping to make wonders in the coming days.

After a successful Developer Conference in Vellalar college last semester, they invited us again to conduct a similar conference. This time we wanted it to be a different, so we suggested them to call the nearby college students as well. As it was a conference with students in and around Erode, We named it as
ERODE STUDENT SUMMIT 2009
Which is a technical gyan event conducted by CBEUG - Coimbatore User Group, were all the Microsoft Student Partners, Mozilla Campus Representatives join together and conduct a one day conference in Erode. ESS '09 was conducted on 26th August which had more than 300 students across different colleges. The participants were from Bannari Amman Institute, Nanda Engineering college, Vellalar Engineering college, KSR Engineering College, Mahendra Institute Of Technology, Excel Engineering College and Excel Institute of Management.

Recruitment for MSP had also begun. As a MSP, we can refer few students which gives added value in their selection process. In order to refer a right candidate we planned a MOCK RECRUITMENT PROCESS in ESS '09. For which we had planned Aptitude, Group Discussion and Interview.
Myself and Abhishek made a point that we would be motivating New Recruits and take them along with us to various events that we would be conducting. This time we had two new recruits with us.
It was nice to see a new recruited MSP, Ramkrishna from M.Kumarasamy college of Engineering,Karur, who joined us in this conference. New recruited MCR, Vivek Balaji from our college also Joined us.
We started with the usual introductory session were we explained them about our usergroup, CBEUG. We also gave them a brief about the MSP recruitment process and also about the MOCK RECRUITMENT that we had planned. We then took a lot of interesting sessions like Robotics, Microsoft Academic Initiative, Windows 7 , Virtual PC, User Experience, Internet Security, Firefox and a lot more.
Parallel to the sessions that were going on, we were conducting aptitude test , Group Discussion. Myself and Abhishek engaged the morning session, after that we were completely busy with the MOCK RECRUITMENT PROCESS. The aptitude test had very simple questions from mathematics, C and a lot more interesting questions. A set of Students after all these process were selected by us. We asked them to Register at
www.student-partners.com with our names as referrals.
Overall we had a great and laborious day.
Human evolution has always been a mystery. Everything that is said to be 'known' about human evolution is based on scientist's interpretation of archaeological and fossil evidence. It is obvious then, that, most of the facts informed are based on incomplete evidence
In the same way Human migration and many other question that are still unanswered (without 'proper evidence') but we wish they were answered, like who we are? How we moved around the world? How humans are found everywhere on Earth? How did we get here? Where did we come from? And why do we all look so different?
DNA studies says that all humans today descend from a group of African ancestors who about 60,000 years ago, began a remarkable journey. (Unbelievable rite)
In order to answer all these IBM and National Geographic came up with a 5 year Project named the Genographic Project on April 2005(one more year left for completion). It helps in creation of a global database of human genetic variation and associated culture data like language, social customs, etc... This database will serve as an invaluable scientific resource for the research community. Many human races are facing a cultural extinction; take our own country as an example. Our country has a diversified rich culture which is facing extinction due to modernization which cannot be avoided. This project will help in keeping a record of our cultural context.
The Genographic Project is headed by Dr. Spencer Wells, a pioneer in using DNA samples to map human migratory patterns. Dr. Wells is accompanied by researchers from IBM's Computational Biology Center and a global team of prominent research scientists from 10 research centers around the world.
Another very interesting thing about this project is that even we can be a part of it. By purchasing Genographic Project participation kit (which cost $100 approx :( ), a person can anonymously contribute his or her own genetic sample to the Project.
As the sample is processed, the results themselves are made available through a secure login that can only be accessed through the use of the unique Genographic Project I.D. number which is provided with the participation kit.
We can learn about our deep ancestry and the migration paths they followed thousands of years ago while contributing to this scientific initiative in a very meaningful way. The results will also place us on a particular branch of the man family tree.
When I heard the word ancestry I thought by participating in this we can find out who is our great grandfather and my relation with some great and famous people we read in our History books(lol :)), But it’s actually not. We can only find our direct maternal or paternal ancestors—where they lived and how they migrated around the world many thousands of years ago.
For example, if we are an African descent, the results will show the initial movements of our ancestors on the African continent, but will not reflect most of the migrations that have occurred within the past 10,000 years.
Mr. Siddarth Prakash, Program manager, Microsoft along with CBEUG - Coimbatore User Group conducted a seminar on Introduction to .net, Visual Studio 2008, Microsoft Academic Initiatives and a lot of cool demos in the premises of Karunya University on 20th March 2009.
Karunya University is located 25 kms away from Coimbatore.
There were more than 1100+ attendees from 1st, 2nd, 3rd years of IT and CSE Department. It was organized by the .net club of Karunya University. The students were really very enthusiastic and interactive.
The session went on for a period of one hour, and the enthusiastic crowd required more time to shoot questions at Siddharth, who also was dynamically answering them. The Director of the Engineering Block, Mr. Blessing was very instrumental in making this event a grand success. The students of the college also spent some quality time with Siddharth and the Microsoft Student Partners to learn more about their ideas and future plans.Arumugham S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13079431713377605533noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1789019970318440186.post-57880249515103209172009-03-21T01:24:00.007+05:302010-02-01T06:07:46.235+05:30<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPSU_SJwYG0538XbelC01UO6-yv0E83oE5uUNCWITjoqfotE-dLsTPrnZvPhGxQKhEvyiSq7txf1jdcNN6Sld-RXCOWrGzDHW9OwoFmsrUKUEiD97pK84CxffY_P6HoGy5__zPv0gipmc/s200/P1060589.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315364145299160018" />
We started with Microsoft Academic Initiative which included Microsoft Student Partner Program, CBEUG - Coimbatore User Group Channel 8, MSDN AA, Live@Edu, Dreamspark, Ineta, Imagine Cup 09, Faculty Connection and Student2Business.
Immediately after that Windows 7 was taken, students were very keen throughout this session and were amazed by the cool features. Then we explained them how to create a Virtual hard disc in windows 7 which is an inbuilt feature in it with a demo.
After 1 hour of lunch we started with a session on Mozilla Firefox add - ons and all about blogging.
As things were going too technical, we conducted quiz in the middle. That re - energized the students as they were all given goodies for simple questions . <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYQBlha7Mv_BoeLkHGYMig65LpQOd5pVHFO6NrixUQuLRPUIiBCexfvh5_7YFDBkAC2p1u6Gn4hBl7IcKKqCHe5zWFpsoVzS1sTGFLFfYSa8AXzOPRJgU5Av2ZP6fbi6SicCxde907m3A/s200/P1060555.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315365327559964706" />Then we took few more technical sessions with a lot of demos like creating a silverlight & WPF applications, then Microsoft Surface, Microsoft Photosynth and all about User Experience. We also played a small skit to make the students understand the problems faced by company on the issue "wide gap between developer and designer". That made them understand more easily.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig28m1aoMlhMMTcoc3Zxg11RA0HdWzPrd_2CYl2tXlw1ShjlacM91lUUzkRmfQzm9ZefFvFHIKP5d7HtN1taO9e5mDkrC8iNbhInjGVFE1z9NBwBYg7yKdHzVy98LGZD2hd66BA0lgI0w/s200/P1060562.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315367049800593458" />
Then at last the most awaiting session Microsoft Robotics Studio was taken. All the students were thrilled and excited. They were really amazed when we showed them how easy it is to write a program in Visual Programming Language and also run the Robot in Simulated Environment.
Then once again we did our usual crap of askin the same old question "convince us what operating system does Rajinikanth use." because we believe that it makes the crowd happy. :D. We gave 4 GB pen drives for the winners.
